India vs Pak Live: Pakistan beats India by five wickets

25, December, 2012

Bangalore: Pakistan have defeated India by five wickets in the first T20. Shoaib Malik finished the game with a six. At one point, Pakistan were tottering at 12/3 courtesy a fiesty spell of swing bowling by debutante Bhuvneshwar Kumar. However, skipper Mohd Hafiz and Malik took charge of the innings and had a brilliant partnership thereafter.
The Pakistani skipper was adjudged man-of-the-match for his blistering knock of 61.
Kumar took three wickets in his four overs. Bhuvneshwar bowled Umar Akmal and Nasir Jamshed with sensational in-swingers.
Talking of the Indian innings, at one time the hosts were 77/0 but they went down like a pack of cards. Rahane has been the leading scorer with 42 of 31 deliveries. India lost their last eight wickets for a score of 47.
Umar Gul took 3 wickets with the most crucial being Yuvraj Singh. Mohd Irfan, who was touted as Pak's secret weapon before the encounter was outstanding in the game. He bothered all the batsmen with his pace and bounce. No Indian batsman appeared comfortable while facing him.
Before this, Pakistan won the toss and invited India to bat. Gambhir and Rahane took India to a solid start and it seemed that India would post a healthy score in excess of 160. However, both the openers got out in quick intervals. Yuvraj Singh hit the first delivery from Shahid Afridi for a six but even he was having trouble against Irfan and Ajmal. The southpaw finally went down to Gul. Dhoni, Sharma and Jadeja departed in a short time and all India managed was a score of 133.
Previously, match referee tossed the coin and Pak skipper Mohd Hafeez won the toss.
When asked by Ravi Shastri about the playing eleven, the Pak skipper forgot his players. India have included newcomer Bhuvneshwar Kumar in their side.
The two-match T20 and three-match ODI series has been squeezed in between India's ongoing full series against the England cricket team, which has taken a break to go home for Christmas and New Year holidays.
India and Pakistan, which last played a bilateral series in 2007, squared off in multi-national events several times after 2008 but for the first time, a Pakistani cricket team will be hosted for a series after the attacks.
The Indian team is going through some testing times as they renew rivalry with Pakistan since the side has been struggling for success.

Sachin Tendulkar retires from ODIs

Sachin Tendulkar retires from ODIs

23, December, 2012

Sachin Tendulkar has retired from ODI cricket. Tendulkar finishes an illustrious career in the 50-over format, having played 463 ODIs, scored 18,426 runs and made 49 centuries, each of them a world record. His last ODI was against Pakistan in Dhaka during the Asia Cup, where he made a half-century in India's victory.
"I have decided to retire from the One Day format of the game," he said in a statement. "I feel blessed to have fulfilled the dream of being part of a World Cup winning Indian team. The preparatory process to defend the World Cup in 2015 should begin early and in right earnest. I would like to wish the team all the very best for the future. I am eternally grateful to all my well wishers for their unconditional support and love over the years."
Tendulkar made his ODI debut on his first international tour, in 1989, against Pakistan in Gujranwala, where he got a duck. He scored his first half-century in his ninth ODI and made an immediate impact when promoted to open the batting in 1994, in an ODI against New Zealand in Auckland, where he smashed 82 in 49 balls. His first century took 79 ODIs to arrive but he kept piling them on with remarkable consistency. (Click here to see Tendulkar's cumulative ODI record.)
Some of the batting highlights in his ODI career include back-to-back hundreds against Australia in 1998 in a triangular tournament in Sharjah, finishing as the highest run-getter in the 2003 World Cup in South Africa, and becoming the first batsman to score a double-century in the ODI format, against South Africa in February 2010.
He was part of one of India's greatest ODI achievements over the last three decades, when they won the World Cup in 2011, beating Sri Lanka in the final on his home ground in Mumbai - it was his last ODI in India. In preparation for that World Cup, Tendulkar had curtailed the amount of ODI cricket in the year playing only four ODIs in the 12 months before the tournament. Since the end of the World Cup, Tendulkar has played 10 ODIs, seven in the CB Series against Australia and the last three of his career being played at the Asia Cup in Dhaka. His innings of 114 against Bangladesh on March 16 was his 100th international hundred in what turned out to be Tendulkar's penultimate ODI match for India.
Tendulkar's announcement of his ODI retirement came through a statement from the BCCI which stated that he had spoken to BCCI president N Srinivasan. His retirement was announced on the day the Indian selectors picked the teams to play in the five-match T20 and ODI series against Pakistan.
"It was not sudden. He informed us before the selection about his decision," Sanjay Jagdale, the BCCI secretary, told reporters. "He spoke to me and the president about his decision. Naturally he must have been (emotional) I can't say we just spoke on the phone."
"What he has expressed is his concern that India has to prepare for the next World Cup," the BCCI's chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty added. "From that point of view, he felt that it was time that he retired."

Pakistani cricketers will miss IPL 6 too

Pakistani cricketers will miss IPL 6 too

NEW DELHI: On a day Pakistan cricket team arrived in India for three ODIs and two T20 international, they were greeted with a rude shock yet again - they won't be taking part in next year's IPL. Sources said, according to the list released by the IPL governing council to all the franchisee of 37 players to be auctioned in February 3, none of the Pakistan cricketers figured. However, the biggest catch in the auction will be from England camp - starting from Monty Panesar, Matt Prior to Ravi Bhopara - all will be up for the grabs. Earlier, the franchises were in the impression that Pakistan players would be there in the auction because the national team was touring India for a short series. Some of the teams were actually eyeing them after seeing their performances in the last T20 World Championship in Sri Lanka. Sources said that the BCCI was not keen for the Pakistan cricketers and the official refused to specify the reason for keeping the Pakistan cricketers out yet again. Sources also said that the Indian government had nothing to do with this decision. "There is no problem buying Pakistan cricketers in the auction, but somehow there was no move from anywhere to include them for the auction," a franchisee owner told TOI. Meanwhile, IPL said that the venue for the auction is yet to be decided. The auction was supposed to be held earlier, but it was clashing with the India-England ODI series which is scheduled to be held from January 11 to 27.

Tours of India and South Africa are going to be Pakistan’s real test, says the chief selector – Cricket News Update

Tours of India and South Africa are going to be Pakistan’s real test, says the chief selector – Cricket News Update   23/12/2012

Tours of India and South Africa are going to be Pakistan’s real test, says the chief selector – Cricket News Update Iqbal Qasim, the chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), believes that the upcoming tours of India and South Africa are going to really test the national team, and also hinted at the inclusion of a few new faces for the series against the Proteas. The Green Shirts have done reasonably well at the world-stage since the disastrous tour of England in 2010. Apart from thrashing England 3-0 in United Arab Emirates earlier this year, Misbah-ul-Haq and company won Test series against New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh and drew level with South Africa and West Indies in the last two and a half years. Pakistan did well in the limited-over formats as well, having qualified for the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and the ICC World T20 2012. While speaking to Pakpassion, the former left-arm spinner expressed that the tours of India and South Africa will test the strength of the Green Shirts as both are among the world’s toughest opponents in home conditions. “Both the India and the South African tours are very important. It's on tours such as these where you can gauge how far you have come as a team and what areas you need to work at and improve upon,” said the chief selector. Pakistan will visit India later this month for a limited-over series, which includes three One Day Internationals and a couple of T20s, with the first match scheduled to be played on December 25, at Bangalore. The Indian series will be followed by the tour of South Africa, which is going to examine the techniques of the Pakistan batsmen in Qasim’s opinion, with the home team having the services of some of the world’s finest bowlers on bouncy pitches. The chief selector further added that some emerging players may get included in the squad for the battle against the Proteas, in order to gain some international exposure. He added, “Conditions that our cricketers will encounter in South Africa will be totally different, for example the bouncy pitches and how to handle them is something that our cricketers and the coaching staff will look at. I think I'd like to see a couple of new faces on the tour of South Africa so they can learn from senior colleagues.”

Bangladesh wait on Pakistan clearance – official

Bangladesh wait on Pakistan clearance – official    23/12/2012

KARACHI: Bangladesh will wait for security clearance from the International Cricket Council (ICC) before confirming they will tour Pakistan next month for a two-match series, their top official said Saturday. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf had said that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had announced their intention to tour, making them the first team to visit the country since a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan squad in 2009. “We were in constant touch with the BCB officials and they have conveyed to us that the tour is confirmed,” Ashraf told AFP. “They have also got approval from their board members and we are in touch for the schedule.” However, Nazmul Hassan, the BCB president, said later Saturday that the decision is still “two to four days” away as they await a security assessment by the International Cricket Council (ICC). “In my opinion, we can reach a final decision in the next two to four days,” Hassan told the BBC Bangla Service. “We will ask the ICC to complete their security assessment for match officials and the moment they finalise their stance, we can give our confirmation. “It will somewhat depend on the ICC’s decision. We need to know their security assessment. Our security team that had gone to Pakistan said the security is adequate.” Foreign teams have shunned playing in Pakistan since gunmen opened fire on a convoy in Lahore, killing eight people and leaving seven Sri Lankan players and their assistant coach injured. The attack pushed Pakistan into a cricket exile as the national team was forced to play their home series at neutral venues in the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand and England. Ashraf said the best security arrangements will be put in place for the Bangladesh team. “We will soon co-ordinate with the provincial governments and put in place the best arrangements for the tour and I am pretty confident that the tour will take place in the best possible manner and pave (the) way for more teams to come,” said Ashraf. Bangladesh earlier this week said they will play a Twenty20 and a one-dayer on January 12 and 13 respectively, both in Lahore. The team had agreed to tour Pakistan in April this year but the event was blocked by Dhaka high court.
